Installation
- Connect Ductwork – Use Metal Male Duct Connectors to join the duct lengths securely.
- Seal the Joints – Apply plastic ducting sealant to the male fitting and push the ducts together. Finish by wrapping aluminium duct sealing tape over the joint for added airtightness.
- Self-Sealing Fittings – Alternatively, use self-sealing fittings to reduce installation time by up to 70%, and these fittings can be easily dismantled when required.
Insulation
- Cold Areas: If ducting is installed in cold spaces (e.g., lofts), it should be insulated with a 25mm thick layer of thermal insulation (thermal conductivity of 0.04W/(m.k) or lower).
- Non-Loft Installations: Even when ducting is in warmer spaces, the intake and exhaust ducts should be insulated to prevent condensation build-up. This can be achieved by wrapping the ducts with 25mm Rockwool duct wrap with a silver foil face.
- Regulatory Compliance: Bubble wrap-style foil insulation no longer meets building control regulations, so alternative methods should be used.
